We are pleased that you are interested in Hod VeHadar, an egalitarian, Masorti (Conservative) community. As part of the Masorti Movement, we maintain Jewish tradition in a way that is relevant to today’s world. Our services are traditional in form but are characterized by our core principles of openness and tolerance, ensuring the full participation of all our members, both women and men.
Regular services are held on Shabbat and holiday mornings at 9:00 a.m. and Monday mornings at 6:30 a.m., with musical Kabbalat Shabbat on occasion. After Shabbat morning services, we enjoy spending time together over delicious Kiddush.
We strive to be a child-friendly congregation and provide children’s activities on Shabbat morning once/month and have options for children’s participation in services; children’s books and games available in the library. Special events for families and children are held throughout the year.
Bar and Bat Mitzvah ceremonies can be held on Shabbat morning, Shabbat afternoon, Monday or Thursday morning or afternoon. All B’nai Mitzvah students participate in a group class and discussions, in addition to individualized preparation, arranged through the congregation. Please contact the office for details.
Adult learning opportunities include weekly Bible and Talmud classes in Hebrew, Parashat Hashavua and other classes in English, and short classes after Shabbat Kiddush once or twice a month.
